How Do You Know If She's' Gay? - Top 5 Tips

Your heart skipped a beat when you saw her across a crowded room. She's everything you ever looked for in a woman, but because she's so perfect you find yourself rooted to the spot and unable to go talk to her. Sound like a familiar situation to you? All too often we let some of the best potential partners slip through our fingers, purely because we are too frightened to talk to her!

This can ether be because we are afraid of rejection - as it would bruise our pride and emotional stability - or because you can't make up your mind whether she's gay or not. But truly, the real question here is how do you know if she's gay or not? Even if you are in a lesbian bar or club you can't be sure that she isn't a straight woman out with a few lesbian friends for a fun night out. If you really feel that you can't even get close to her without convincing yourself that she's a lesbian then follow these top five tips.

Lesbian or Not? - Let's Find Out!
Whilst we can't guarantee 100% accuracy with any of the methods we are about to describe, you will probably find them useful ways of assessing her potential as a lesbian. It will also give you time to focus on more attributes of her rather than her immediate physical appearance. If you still like her at the end of all this then you have to pluck up the courage to go talk to her!

1. Private Detective Work - Try to find out a little about her background. Perhaps she is known to people through your network of friends, or maybe you are friendly enough with the bar staff to find out what kind of job she does, and whether they know if she is a lesbian or not. We are not saying go hire a detective to stalk her, but to literally use a little bit of ingenuity to try and find out more about her.

2. Grooming Habits and Style - Pay more attention to what she is wearing and the way she dresses. If she's butch looking, and wears steel toe capped boots and a baseball cap, then this is obviously a real sign of her inclination to dress far more masculine than most heterosexual women would. Of course, she could just be having a bad wardrobe day! Also focus your attention on her hair. Many lesbians wear a particular style, or use similar hair styling products to make it textured and spiky. Of course if she has long flowing curls and wears skirts this is intrinsically more difficult - but who's to say that she's not a lipstick lesbian?

3. Lesbian Jewelry - The jewelry she wears could be a subtle give away. If you find that you can get close enough look out for bracelets, necklaces, or earrings which have the colors of the gay pride flag on them, the double female symbol, the Lambda or even the Labrys; these could all answer your burning question.

4. Places She Hangs Out and People She's With - If you spot her two or three times in a selection of your favorite lesbian hang-outs then this is an indication that she is into the lesbian scene, and is not just a woman out for a great straight night out in a lesbian location. Also pay attention to the people she's with; perhaps they are lesbians that you know or recognize. If they are the type of people that don't tag Fag Hags lightly then this is a sure fire sign that she's one of the team.

5. Switch on Your Gaydar - Gaydar is a play on the word radar meaning you can see what's hidden beneath, and no we do not mean panties and bra here! What we mean is that gay people claim to have an instinct or an immediate connection with someone that they should trust to tell them whether this person is gay or lesbian or not. In scientific tests, gay people are far better at spotting other gay people. It's strange but true - so if it works for others then why won't it work for you?

There's no real sure fire way to know if she is a lesbian or not, but hopefully these pointers will have helped you 75% of the way there. You will just have to take the bullet between your teeth, swallow your pride and talk to her. If it's automatically obvious that she is not gay, then you may become great friends. If you don't want that, find an excuse to make a sharp exit and console yourself with chocolate and ice cream that your dream girl was not to be.
